Shaking up my makeup stash for spring

Spring is here! Daffodils are blooming, baby lambs are baaing and the sun is starting to shine for that little bit longer in the evening. As with probably everyone, I like to give my makeup stash a shake up each time a new season rolls around but especially in spring. I love going from dark colours and full coverage to bright and airy bases. Bring on the sunshine!

I’ve come to the conclusion that I love it when I’m just that little bit more tanned and I have no idea why I don’t give myself bit more of a glow. So I feel like I might start using a gradual moisturiser more often. Anyway that’s a bit off topic. What made me think of this was when I used my Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in Alaska the other day, I really liked the way it looked at the bit of extra colour it gave to my skin. I’m going to tan up and move this into my daily stash. It’s probably right on the cusp of how dewy I’m willing to go but I do like the light base this gives. Another glow giver that I like to bring out in the spring is the Pixi Glow Booster in Peach Glow. I don’t usually use it all over (bit too sheeny for me) but I like to put it on the tops of my cheekbones just for a bit of added something.

I don’t know why I try and fall in love with cream products every year, but each spring without fail I’ll add some sort of stick product into my daily makeup routine. So, here we are, with the Collection Speedy Blush in Cheeky now in my everyday stash. As stick products go I really like this one because it’s not greasy, not too firm and the right amount of creaminess. It’s also a great colour and I can build it up to the right amount of ‘flush’. I’ve shared my love for the Dior Addict Lipstick in Tout-Paris before loads of times, but there’s a reason why it’s one of my favourite products, especially in the spring. It’s a bright pink which goes on sheer so is amazing at jazzing up an everyday face. It’s also very moisturising and when the weather starts to get warmer this is just what I want. I can see myself getting to the end of this soon and it upsets me so much! Any recommendations for moisturising lipsticks that are pink and sheer would be much appreciated!

Last year I picked up the Fig Fiction Perfume from & Other Stories in the sale and instantly fell in love. To me it’s springtime in a bottle and I’m all about it. It’s not overly floral and really fresh. To me it just smells of the outdoors, like when you go on a long walk and smell of grass. It gives me such good memories of last year (bought it on a friends weekend in Oxford and every time I spray it it reminds me of Countryfile Live) and I’m obsessed.

All that glitters | The best sparkle for your eyes

I love glitter. To the point where I’d happily shower in the stuff. I love a bit of sparkle on my eyes, I just think it looks great packed onto the lid with winged liner – dreams! Here are my favourites to get that shimmer on my eyes and staying on through a night in the club, day trip out or slowing round the house (just sometimes like to bring a bit of glamour to life).

First up is the Pop shade from the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette, my first dip in the ‘sophisticated glitter’ pool. This pressed pigment sort of powder transforms any eye look from standard to something a bit more smokey. It’s a dirty gold shade with lots of glittery flecks in it so  when swiped across the lid it’s subtle but pretty. I like to apply using my finger just before I use mascara and really build it up so it’s super sparkly.

Next up are the Collection Glam Crystals. I first heard about these on Lucy and Lydia’s channel and haven’t really looked back since. I mean these are £2.99 and they’re pretty incredible. Basically a glitter eyeliner with flecks of different colours in it, it works great over other eyeshadows and lasts all day because of the wet formula that dries right down. When I use these I really layer them up, like eight coats, so there’s so much glitter is blinding, but they don’t feel sticky or thick on my eye lids. I have the shades Dancing Queen, a pink with silver flecks, and Funk, a bright gold. Love them both, they look so cool, I especially love them under the eye – although word of warning, they can sting a little when really close to the eyeball.

Now the last one is my favourite of all the glitters. I haven’t had it for very long but it’s so amazing that I have to share it. The NYX Glitter in Copper and the NYX Glitter Primer are a beautiful combination. Now, unlike the others, you should really put this on first before the rest of your makeup otherwise it will end up all down your face, but once it’s on it’s on. I put an eyeshadow down first, Sonic from the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette is good – a pinky red. Then I take a bit of the glitter primer and dab it on the top using my finger. After that I take a brush and pack on the glitter. Like the other two I pack a lot on but it looks great and is like a true glitter. Love it.

(Also can we just take a minute to appreciate this Primark cushion. I’m in love)

My nail varnish collection and storage

Now, I never thought that my little collection of nail varnishes was particularly big until I recently had a sort out. When it covered at least a quarter of my very large desk I started to think that maybe it was slightly excessive. Soon enough my little green wicker box was overflowing and I was forced to find another place to store them. Cue my birthday and I received a Champneys gift box. After ‘uming and aahring’ of what to put in it I thought it would be a good nail varnish storage.

I decided that putting it on it’s side looked much better than if I just had it flat as it looks like a cute little shelving unit. At first I just had them like this without securing them which worked out fine for a couple of days but when I tried to get one out one day I unleashed a varnish avalanche and there was  nothing I could do but stand on my swivel chair (as I store this in my overhead unit things) trying not to fall off whilst being hit by flying nail products. After that, I decided to blutack them down to prevent it from happening again, *fingers crossed*.

Disco ball

Shirley Temple
Mint candy apple

These three varnishes are my favourites. Disco ball by Rimmel is a sparkle top coat type thing which has silver, blue and purple specs (as you can tell I’m soooo good at explaining things!). I like to wear it over purples and blues and if I want mega sparkle I’ll do 2-3 coats. My favourite one at the minute is Essie’s Mint candy apple. It applies really nicely and the brush is so fat you need like one swipe and you’re done! The colour is bright and happy and seems to stay on my nails for at least a week which is amazing! Last but not least is Shirley Temple by Rimmel. It’s a shimmery orange colour and is actually what I wore on my nails for my Sixth-Form prom. This is such a good colour to wear in summer as it really sparkles in the sunshine.

I made a video over on my YouTube channel featuring my collection and where abouts it is etc so hop on over and take a gander! Click the link below to go straight there, bye!
