Skincare picks, capsule wardrobe and new scents | February Favourites

Ah February. How you’ve flown by. But seriously, after the three decades of January I can’t believe how quickly this month has passed. I’ve had a lot of birthday fun and we’re ending on this great sunny weather. Who could ask for more?! In the middle of the month I was struggling to think of anything to add to my favourites but after my birthday I have a fair few to add to the list – with some I’m still giving a bit more of a test run which no doubt will feature in next month’s post. So without anymore fluffing up, here’s what I’ve been loving this month:

I have an item of clothing in my favourite this month – shock horror! This is rare because as much as I spend £50 a time on makeup and skincare I won’t spend £20 on a pair of jeans I desperately need. It makes so sense but anyone I’ll get back to the point. I have An Edited Life to thank for this buy. Last month I bought myself a black cord pinafore dress because I needed something to go with a load of colourful jumpers I had in my wardrobe and in the spirit of creating a capsule wardrobe I thought this would be a good bet. I’ve become fully obsessed with it. I wear it most days to work with a polo neck jumper underneath or just a normal jumper with some black tights and black boots. So easy, I just pick a jumper and it works together. Also I wore a stripey t-shirt with it the other day when it was a bit warmer and I was totally into that as well. An all round great purchase that I’ll be getting more and more use out of in the weeks and months to come.

Something I’m equally as obsessed with is my Aquarius necklace from Topshop. It’s delicate gold necklace with my star sign in a circle and I wear it a heck of a lot. I was lacking a delicate necklace and this has filled the slot perfectly.

I’m having a real skincare moment at the minute and it’s all hydration based. Although my skin is quite oily I think it’s also pretty dehydrated so I’ve been trying to use lots of products that will give it a boost but not clog my pores. The Nip and Fab Dragons Blood Plumping Serum (which I got in the Glossybox Advent Calendar) is perfect for that kind of thing. My skin drinks this up and it drys in about five minutes. I love it. In a morning I use that and then just before I use foundation I put a couple of pumps of the Barry M Unicorn Primer Drops Beauty Elixir to brighten up my face and give a boost. These two together are a dream team!

Let’s talk about the shea butter scent from the Body Shop. I’ve never had this one before and I don’t know why I’ve missed it for this long. My mum got me one of the sets for my birthday and it’s definitely become one of my new favourite scents. It’s so warming but not too sickly sweet and I’m all about it. I’ve also fallen back in love with the Body Shop Body Butters again. There’s nothing better than slathering a thick, deliciously smelling cream on after a winter shower.

For Christmas, my gran got me a load of these bath tea bags and they are an actual miracle. They let me have a wonderful smelling bath without the mess! I usually just put one of these in when I start running the bath (let it infuse you know) and then go in with the bubbles nearer the end. Once I’m ready to get in, take the bag out, give it and squeeze and done! I love all bath products but these are a bit more fun (also love tea so is very fitting).

Guess who’s back!

I’m baaaack! Did you miss me? It’s been around 12 months since I last typed up a blog post and does it feel good to get back into the swing again. A lot has happened in the last year, I graduated, got myself a job, got a car and most exciting of all…I’ve become obsessed with candles. Yeah, I know, my eyes have been opened to the wonderful world of scented things that burn. Love.

I’ve wanted to get back into blogging for a while but there was a whole thing where it logged me out of my account and I couldn’t remember my password. But six months has gone by and I’ve been magically logged back into my account. Hooray!

What can you expect from me now? I mean, don’t set your expectations too high but pretty much the same as before. Beauty stuff, food stuff, lifestyle things, etc, etc. I’m going to start with once a week on a Wednesday so look out tomorrow for something new!

February Favourites 2016

Happy leap year everyone! Savour today because you’re not going to get another Feb 29th for four more years. This month’s favourites are very TV heavy, both in the binging and weekly series department. There’s also a little bit of food thrown in so without further ado here’s what I’ve been loving this month.

Beauty

No makeup in the favourites this month as I’m still testing out the giant hoard that I bought a couple of weeks ago (so expect my March favourites to be very makeup heavy!). When I got the Body Shop Hawaiian Kukui Cream from their Spa of the World range for Christmas I told myself I’d only use it on special occasions. At the beginning of this month I decided I should use it on more of a daily basis because it wasn’t going down and to be honest I just fell in love with it. It’s a thick cream that gives so much moisture to my legs and has such a beautiful scent that lingers and makes my pyjama bottoms smell fantastic! Another thing that smells amazing and is also from the Body Shop is the Coconut Hand Cream. I bought this last week and as soon as I applied it I fell in love. Did you know that people will give you funny looks if you keep smelling your hands? I found that out when I kept smelling my hands to get the coconut scent into my nostrils. These strange looks have led me to getting the Coconut Body Mist so if anyone in the Nottingham area gets an overwhelming whiff of coconut, it’s me walking around the streets. Sorry in advance.

TV

February has been a huge month for TV favourites. I’ve definitely been neglecting my work and hiding up my duvet watching another episode of whatever it is I’ve been obsessed with. First up is THE BEST PROGRAMME EVER IN THE WORLD, Happy Valley. If you’ve never heard of it, where have you been! We’re on series two now so if you’ve never seen it lucky you, you have a whole series and a half to catch up on! It’s on the edge of my gore capacity but the story is so engaging and it’s just perfect ‘on the edge of your seat’ thrills. Basically it’s about a police woman who’s life hasn’t been the most fortunate and what she gets up to (it’s much more interesting than that trust me). I forgot to mention it’s filmed where I live, and I mean like streets I’ve walked down, places I’ve been and that is just so exciting for me! Please give it a watch, you won’t regret it. A series I binge watched this month was How I Met Your Mother. I’ve never been overly interested in watching it but one day I thought I might as well give it a go because there must be a reason why people like it. I became obsessed during the three weeks it took me to watch all nine seasons (I was slacking a little, I had a weekend off and couldn’t be bothered some other days so it wasn’t my best work). Let’s go to the mall has become one of my favourite songs and I need a yellow umbrella in my life. If you’ve never seen it, it’s just a nice, easy watching programme that’s very funny.

Other

The ‘other’ thing I’ve been loving this month is afternoon tea. I’ve been twice in February for birthday celebrations and I just love it. I think it’s the fact that it’s classy, tasty and there’s sometimes alcohol involved and I’m a big fan of all of those things. This month I’ve been to the Spiced Pear in Hepworth, near Huddersfield (you can read all about that here) and Brown’s in Nottingham (expect a post to come on that very soon).

Two in a row

Writing two of these blog posts in a row has taught me that I really shouldn’t miss a day. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again. Today has been a really good day! My friend Beth from home has come up for my birthday celebrations so it’s going to be amazing! I’m currently in my room before going out tonight after being kicked out of the kitchen for some mysterious reason, hmm….

                    Day 11: Mistake

This is just something on my big wall collage. It’s meant to say Edinburgh because that’s where the receipt is from but due to my lack of spelling skills it didn’t turn out like that. It always annoys me whenever I look at it.

It was going so well!

It was going to happen sooner or later, I missed a day. But i’m still powering through and determined to get to the end of the month with NO MORE mistakes! Today it was back to normal with the end of my two week holiday, I mean two weeks of intense work…. so it was quite nice to get back into a routine. Until I got to my seminar and found out that my afternoon was cancelled, nothing routine about that. Not long now until the big day and I’m so excited! Out tonight, tomorrow and Saturday for some birthday runtimes, can’t wait!

                  Day ten: I am…

Well today this could only be late. I’m literally so annoyed! It seems I can never do anything like this, I’ve still never fully completed an instagram photo challenge never mind one that actually requires some form of work! This watch is literally the cutest thing, problem is I always forget to wear it. I need some form of memory help…

Flat sweet flat!

After my little ‘uni break’ at home I’m back with a vengeance ready to get to work and eat those Pringles that I left in the cupboard before I left. Let me tell you, those Pringles were good…

                Day nine: Details

This is, what I think, quite a detailed wall full of random things I’ve acquired whilst I’ve been at uni. Normal things like postcards and then slightly weirder things like a plastic hanging hook that you get when you buy socks…yeaa that’s a thing… I quite like this wall now. The more it fills up the more I like it the problem is, I’m not looking forward to taking it down when I leave, 1.because it will be sad and 2. it’s gonna take a loooooooong time.

Present recieval time!

The second of my birthday celebrations took place today and it was great! A family party with lasagne (my favourite) and a chocolate fudge brownie pudding, heaven. Only problem is that tonight’s my last night at home (sad face) before I go back to uni (happy face) so it’s quite bitter sweet but I’m going to make the most of it!

                Day eight: Water

Yes, I realise that this isn’t water but WAter is a bit like WAr horse…okay so I opened my birthday presents today and got this DVD and was way too excited not to use it for today’s picture. It’s just soooooo goooooood!!!! I seriously can’t wait to watch it, again! Other presents include 2 tops, lots of booze and DERREN BROWN TICKETS! That’s right, Derren. Brown. Tickets. As you can probs tell I am beyond excited, so can’t wait for May!

The countdown begins!

Birthday celebrations are a go go! Today me and my family took a trip to Leeds to have a meal at Brown’s and it was soooooo good! I had asparagus and procutto to start and then chicken with some other stuff for main. With a lovely dark chocolate brownie to finish off, yum! Of course there was also a latte to finish it off!

               Day seven: Utensils

This day has made me really want some new make up brushes. One day a few weeks ago I went into Boots and nearly had a break down at the new range of Real Techniques brushes that were on offer. All of my will power was used to stop myself from grabbing them all and running to the till. Problem was I was waiting for my birthday money so I’ll be really upset if when I’m ready to buy they’ve all gone! I will get you one day retractable bronzing brush…

Off the wall (or through it)

First day back, looking forward to a nice lie in, life is good. Cue 8:30 the sounds of the worlds biggest drill about to burst through my wall! What a lovely thing to wake up to, but it didn’t disrupt my sleep that much (high five to waking up at 10:15!). I didn’t realise that getting cavity wall insulation meant nearly completely ripping open the side of the house!

                Day five: Squares

So these aren’t technically squares but today I rediscovered pinterest and I’ve become completely obsessed! Now there’s a place where I can look at all the things I love! [cough, pictures of Olly Murs, cough]. So goodbye hours of productive work and hello pictures of cute puppies!

Home sweet home!

What a day to come home, when the theme of today’s photo challenge is ‘childhood’. Meant to be. Everything went smoothly, my train was on time, my tickets printed without issues and life is good! Plus this now means it’s kind of the start of my birthday celebrations! WOOOO! Lets get this party started (phrase meant as least cringey as possible…)

             Day four: Childhood

Horray for a great childhood! Although looking through the old photos to use for this made me realise that I was a slightly weirder than average child. Sure, there are nice smiling photos but equally there are the ‘I didn’t even know that a person could make that face’ ones. It was nice to be nostalgic, especially as I’d forgotten I had these so it was nice to have a look back, except the glasses…never fun to look back on the glasses.
