Guess who’s back!

I’m baaaack! Did you miss me? It’s been around 12 months since I last typed up a blog post and does it feel good to get back into the swing again. A lot has happened in the last year, I graduated, got myself a job, got a car and most exciting of all…I’ve become obsessed with candles. Yeah, I know, my eyes have been opened to the wonderful world of scented things that burn. Love.

I’ve wanted to get back into blogging for a while but there was a whole thing where it logged me out of my account and I couldn’t remember my password. But six months has gone by and I’ve been magically logged back into my account. Hooray!

What can you expect from me now? I mean, don’t set your expectations too high but pretty much the same as before. Beauty stuff, food stuff, lifestyle things, etc, etc. I’m going to start with once a week on a Wednesday so look out tomorrow for something new!

Bills! (Take Three)

I went through a phase last year of eating at Bills any chance I could but then I think I overdid it because I just wasn’t into it anymore. I’m so glad that I gave it a little break because I really loved it. I like the whole vibe of the place and I tried their pink lemonade for the first time and I would seriously recommend it, delish!

I went for the chicken burger with chipotle mayonnaise and sweet potato fries. A word of warning, it doesn’t say that it comes with anything on the menu but it comes with sweet potato fries. This dish was amazingly delicious. The bread was sweet and that is my favourite thing to have on a burger. It came with coleslaw inside which was a nice touch. I love coleslaw and it was nice because it wasn’t overly creamy and didn’t make the bread or the chicken soggy. The chicken was crispy on the outside, moist in the middle with a delicious flavour. The mayonnaise had a really nice flavour that meant it was good to dip my fries in and to have on my burger. The sweet potato fries were amazing, crispy, soft and deliciously sweet. You also get loads to say it’s just in a little can. The portion of the whole meal was spot on and I would definitely have this again!

I pushed myself a little to go for a dessert and I chose the pecan pie with malted milk ice cream. It was delicious! The pastry was thin and crisp, the pecans were sticky and sweet and it was just a nice size. The ice cream tasted like banana to me which isn’t a bad thing because it was delicious and it went well with the pie. I don’t think there’s anything else I can say about this other than yummy!

The Beauty Lover Tag

Something a little bit different on the blog today, a tag. I spotted this one from Bloomin’ Rouge when I was scrolling through Bloglovin’ and thought it would be a fun one to do.

1. If you could have anyone in the world do your makeup, who would it be?

Seeing as though I have a recent obsession with Charlotte Tilbury I think I’d have to pick her to do my makeup. I feel like the smokey eye she’d do would be incredible, plus the thought of having her products on my face makes me excited!

2. What’s your top makeup tip?

I’m all for the post it note/ masking tape trick for getting a sharp line when doing eye shadow. It’s my night out smokey eye saviour and 9 times out of 10 I use it. Although it has made me realise that I have odd eyes because I have to really concentrate to make sure they’re even, one eye has a much steeper slant than the other.

3. What one makeup item could you not live without?
Mascara. No question. Concealer comes a close second but living a life without mascara-ed up lashes is one that I don’t want to think about. However I seem to be in a bit of a mascara rut and nothing I use is doing it for me, so any recommendations for mind blowing mascaras would be much appreciated.

4. What one skincare item could you not live without?

I don’t think I couldn’t live without micellar water. I love the feeling of taking makeup off my face at night and the cooling sensation of this in the morning is just what I need to wake me up. Cleanser comes a close second but the ease of micellar water meant that it came out on top. If you were wondering the Garnier Micellar Water is my one of choice and to me nothing has really come close to it.

5. What are you worst at when it comes to applying makeup

Other than false eyelashes, which I’m terrible at but I’m also new to the eyelash application game, I am not great at applying blush. It goes either two ways, non existent or like an overdrawn circle on my cheeks. The brush I use isn’t the best but then a good workman never blames his tools (I think that’s the saying, maybe). Any blush application techniques would be much appreciated.

6. What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to beauty?

I think everyone’s answer to this question is cleaning makeup brushes. It used to be mine too but I got this amazing brush cleaner for Christmas (it will make a blog appearance soon) and since then it’s not been that much of an issue. Now my biggest pet peeve is the cleaning and upkeep of my flannels and muslin cloths. I don’t know when to change them, I don’t like washing them and it seems like within two days they get disgusting. I hate them but they’re so great when I’m taking off my makeup!

7. What’s your favourite makeup era?

I don’t really have a favourite era but I’d love to be able to do and pull off the winged liner of the sixties. I always think it looks amazing in photos.

8. What’s your guilty pleasure product?

Without a shadow of a doubt my guilty pleasure product has to be my Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel blackhead strips. There is nothing more satisfying than peeling these off my nose and then looking to see what was in your nose (disgusting I know but it’s a guilty pleasure of mine).

9. What’s your underdog product?

The Mac Painterly Paint Pot is probably my underdog product. I love it so much and think it has to be  one of the best eyeshadow primers out there, but it doesn’t get as much of a mention as it should. I use it everyday and would be totally lost without it. Also I’ve had it for a year, used it everyday and have barely made a dint in it!

10. What’s your favourite makeup product of 2015?

I think when it comes down to it, 2015 was the year of the winged liner for me so any of the L’Oreal Super Liner range. I wear liner almost every day now and I think it was down to these ones that made me love it so much as they make it so easy to apply.

How to: Beat the Stress

I thought that this picture was very apt when talking about stress, who can be stressed and annoyed when looking at these cute little furry creatures. In the past few weeks I have felt the stress building up from all of the things I have to get done before Christmas, and trust me it is quite a lot. The problem with my stress levels are that they don’t get released when I have the stress. It all gets bottled up until I just have a little explosion once every few months where I hate everyone and everything and have to just let it out for a few hours. Probably not healthy but it’s been working so far. So I thought I’d share some tips on what I do when I have an ‘episode’ and what I do to cool myself down.

Listen to some music which calms you // This can be whatever, calming piano tunes, the sound of rain, or hardcore rock music if that’s your thing. I have a playlist on my Spotify called ‘Cool Down Abz’ and it’s filled with songs that are ‘swingy’, like Michael Buble and Robbie Williams. I have no idea why but listening to these on full blast make me feel a lot less like stabbing someone in the face. My favourite is Me and my shadow because it’s so happy and upbeat.

Change your phone screensaver // I discovered this the other day. When I was feeling annoyed I randomly changed my screensaver to a cute picture I had on my phone. I went for a cat that was really close to the screen every time I look at it I nearly cry with laughter. It’s just so cute!

Delicious food // There’s nothing that makes me feel calmer than eating really nice food. Whether it’s a nice meal, preferably with pastry, or a piece of cake (I love cake so much), it brings me happy thoughts. Hot drinks also bring me the calm vibes, tea or hot chocolate I’m easy.

Finally, watch a TV programme that makes you feel happy!

My Netflix List

It’s been a while since my last Netflix list and there has been a lot of new stuff added since then that I’ve been obsessed with and really enjoyed. To me, there’s nothing better than getting into a new series and letting it take over your life. It’s probably unhealthy but it’s like a nice body butter, you love it whilst you’re using it but when it’s done and you move onto the next thing (wow deep).

Sing it on // A very recent discovery and I think that it was only added to Netflix last month. If you like Pitch Perfect then this is for you! It follows five college acapella groups as they compete to win the collegian (I think that’s right) acapella championships. It features great singing, funky choreo (that’s acca speak for choreography) and a rollercoaster of emotions.

Once Upon a Time // In the last two weeks I tried to pick this up again because I saw that the new series had started but it has been a very love/hate relationship. I watched the first two episodes on a plane three years ago and was instantly hooked and a few months later I watched the first two seasons. Then last year I started watching the third series and couldn’t get into it very much. But I’m persevering and it’s getting better but I totally recommend watching the first series because that’s really good.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit // I don’t know if I’ve said how much I love this programme but if I haven’t, I seriously love it. I watched the whole thing in a day because it’s quite short and sweet but it’s so good. Not only has it got one of the best theme tunes of all time but it’s really funny and attention grabbing and great. The basic plot is a woman is ‘set free’ from an underground cult after 15 years and she moves to New York and catches up on life. If you haven’t seen it, watch it, please, you won’t regret it.

Parks and Recreation // I’d heard all the hype and seen the gifs so when I was in Florida and American Netflix made it on to my laptop I delved into the world of Pawney. It’s so great. In a way it reminds me of Friends in the way that every episode has a memorable moment and there are so many great quotes. Who knew that a show about trying to make a pit into a park could be so great. Go on, treat yo’ self, give this show a go.

Round Up #10

Scarecrow Festival

Every year at around this time a village close to where I live holds a scarecrow festival. So, as the cool people we are we spent last Sunday morning wandering around, walking up and down hills to look at some very well made and creative scarecrows. The theme this year was songs and there were some good efforts but my favourite was Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball hanging off a telegraph pole. There were some naughty donkey’s who stole the show and one especially loved having his picture taken. So cute!

Winter Times

Winter is coming and I can seriously feel it (that wasn’t a Game of Thrones reference by the way just a giant coincidence). There’s a little chill in the air the coats are coming out and I’m loving it. I bought this year’s pair of winter boats, some new cuddly pyjamas and me snuggling up in a blanket at night has become socially acceptable again! Back to the pyjamas, they are amazing. IT’S SO FLUFFY! They’re from Primark (as are most of my pyjamas) and I have my eye on a fox onesie which is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

Bread

I’ve seriously been getting into bread making over the past few weeks (as you’ll know if you read yesterday’s post). On Wednesday of this week I made really tasty tear and share loaf with stilton and bacon. I’m not that big of a cheese fan but this was so delicious! We had it with soup and it was a great combo. The recipe was good old Paul Hollywood and I find his bread book explains how to make things so simply that even a newbie like me can turn out a decent loaf!

My Life Essentials

There are some things in life that I just would not be able to live without, and I’m not talking family or anything like that but I mean really stupid things that no one needs in life but that I seriously DO NEED. So here is a list of things that if I didn’t have for some reason I might die, seriously near death at least.

Costa Card

My life, my literal life. Since I got back from university I have been going to costa pretty much everyday, and if not everyday at least five times a week. It’s a problem and an addiction but something that makes it worth it is my costa card. I may be spending 90% of my money on coffee and cake but the fact that every so often I can get it for free makes it worth it (that makes no sense but I get what I mean). It’s such a shame that my SU coffee shop doesn’t accept the card, then my life would be complete.

Eyeshadow

I wear eyeshadow everyday and if I didn’t wear it I’d feel so naked so that definitely makes it an essential. It doesn’t have to be a complex eye look all the time, especially now that I have my Kiko Eyeshadow Sticks so that I can just sweep and go. Recently, liner has been a big thing as well but if I went out of the house without that on it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Also the Mac 217 brush can come under this category as well, I don’t know what I ever did without it!

Cotton Pads

Without cotton pads I would literally be lost when it comes to skincare. I go through them like it’s nobody’s business and I especially love the large ones. I bought large ones just randomly one day and I’ve never looked back. I use them as is with my Garnier Micellar Water to take my makeup off and then rip them in half to use my Nivea Toner. I go through much less of the large ones but I still get through them at a stupid pace. Without these my skincare routine would be non-existent and I’m not going back to wipes. Essential.

Laptop

I don’t even want to joke about ever losing my laptop. Anyone that knows me knows that this is literally my life. It goes with me pretty much anywhere, to the point that if I’m going to the kitchen to cook food I’ll take it with me or if I go to the toilet it joins me. And I never shower without it. I watch videos and TV on it, blog on it, shop on it, do work on it, google the day away on it and it is literally my baby. It may have been expensive but it’s money well spent.

July Favourites!

So this month has been pretty exciting. Fun parties, ending work experience and best of all going on holiday! And there have been a few things that I’ve really loved this month, like true love. The weather this month has also been great, not just here in Florida but also back home where the heatwave was more than just a weekly thing and more like the entire month. So let’s get into it!

Vichy Detox Moisturiser

A few months ago I got two mini testers and it was one of those things that I didn’t really notice was so great until I’d finished it. I hadn’t used it in a couple of months and I noticed that my skin wasn’t as clear and my scars were sticking around a lot longer. For me £15 for a moisturiser is a little bit excessive but the fact that it made my skin look so good made me need it back in my life, and I have to say I’ve never looked back. It has improved my skin in terms of scarring and although I still get breakouts my skin overall is much clearer. It doesn’t make my skin greasy but it hydrates it nicely so when I wake up it feels soft and I’m just seriously in love with it.

Florida and Disney World

So far I’ve been here for a week and a half and it’s been one of the best times ever! The mix of Disney and sun and general amazingness…I just can’t explain how much of a good time I’m having. If you want to keep up to date with some of my antics my weekly round up posts are dedicated strictly to all things Florida. Some of my highlights have been Magic Kingdom and Discovery Cove (the dolphins were so cute it’s one of the best moments ever kissing it’s fishy lips!).

How to: Warm Weather Face

I’ve been doing a lot of posts on long lasting make-up related topics lately but I feel like with this recent weird weather I’ve learnt a lot about my skin that I didn’t know before. For the last few weeks I got myself into a good steady make-up routine that features products to help de-oil my face. All of this was going fine and not many touch ups were needed but in the last week my skin is having such a greasy moment and I have no idea why. When we had the mammoth heatwave my skin was just as normal but now when we’ve gone into what feels like monsoon weather it’s gone completely odd. This means that I’ve had to figure out different ways to combat the grease.

First off I used tissue paper to blot away the oil every couple of hours. I know that in my how to: oily skin post (read here) I mentioned that I used blotting paper but I’ve lost it so toilet roll will have to do. My oil is the thing on my face that gets the worst so it’s not a surprise that my make-up also lasts the least on that area too,

Now we get into something that I am notoriously bad at…make-up touch-ups. I always forget to take top up products out with me and to be perfectly honest I just can’t be bothered lugging something else around in my bad. However, I’ve been trying to take concealer and powder with me, concealer to cover any red patches where my foundation has rubbed off and also on any spots that the oil has cause and powder to de-shine the oily zones before they get too bad.

Something that is my absolute lifesaver on a daily basis is energising spray. I use the Body Shop Vitamin C one and it works wonders. Not only does it cool the face when it’s a bit too hot it also calms down any oily areas and mattifys them slightly making it easier to apply powder. The best way to completely get rid of any oil (or at least most of it) is to use of all these things that I’ve mentioned. First blot your face with tissue or blotting paper, then spray it with an energising spray and finally do any touch-ups that are needed. This way you just aren’t caking up your face by putting product on top of oil, you’re making sure your base is clear.

Round Up #5

Sunny Weather

Now although some days it has been a little bit too warm, I’ve enjoyed looking outside and seeing the sunshine. I’ve also liked cracking out the summer wardrobe, shorts strappy tops and all things brightly coloured. It’s got me really excited for my holiday which is only less than three weeks away!

The world’s best primer

You’ll be hearing more about this on Monday but I thought I’d give it a mention here because this week it’s really changed my life. With having work experience and sometimes doing stuff afterwards on a night I need my makeup to last me 12 hours plus without much touching up. I’ve already spoken about my love for the L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation before but in the sun it’s all a bit too heavy. So by using the Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer it turns my L’Oreal True Match Foundation into a much longer lasting base because on its own it sometimes gets a bit too oily too quickly. But again more about this on Monday.

Food

So. Much. Food. Need I say more. I have a back log of food posts to go up (which is good as it means I can cover the weeks that I’m in Florida). There will be quite a few repeats especially in the next few weeks so don’t hate me but I did have different dishes so it should be alright. Tomorrow is also my mum’s birthday party and we’re having an afternoon tea style buffet which I’m really excited about but no doubt that will be in next week’s round up!
