Recommended by a friend: The Body Shop British Rose Mask

I love taking beauty recommendations from friends. Not only do you know that it’s probably going to be pretty good, because they wouldn’t recommend anything rubbish, but also it’s usually different to the hyped up products you read about on blogs and see on instagram. I thought I’d start off a mini series about all the products my friends have raved about and that I’ve loved as well. Starting off is something I had my eye on but actually took the plunge and bought because I spotted it when going through my friend’s beauty stash and she said she loved it. It’s The Body Shop British Rose Plumping Face Mask.

This recommendation came at the perfect time because I’m trying to look after my skin a bit more and provide a little more moisture in my routine after years of using oil stripping products. I already have the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask in my collection (back to the oil stripping) so I was already a fan of the Body Shop face masks. The formula is like a jelly which is easy to scoop out (I normally take a lump off with my fingers) and rub it into my face and a bit down my neck. It isn’t a face mask that drys down and it doesn’t change colour when it’s ‘done’ so you kind of have to work out what works for you in terms of how long you leave it on your face. The instructions say five to ten minutes and ten is where I usually go (maybe a smidge longer if I’m in the bath relaxing).I feel the effect instantly with this mask. When my friend was telling me about it she said her face felt plumped and smooth as soon as the mask came off and I have to agree. My face feels smooth, it looks bright and I’m totally in love with it. I haven’t noticed it break me out either which is a massive win because I’m seriously prone to random spots.

I use this pretty regularly twice a week and it’s something I reach for when I’ve had a bit too much to drink (*cough* last weekend *cought*) or when I need to a boost of moisture. If you’re in the market for something that peps your skin up then I would 100% recommend this and it’s definitely my favourite mask I’m using at the minute.

What’s your current top recommendation?

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Range

For the past month I’ve been testing out these two products so I could give you my thoughts on this range. February was the month where my Bloglovin feed was choc-a-blocked with pictures of The Body Shop Drops of Youth products and I was so intrigued. I read a lot of reviews on it and when I popped into a store I picked up the Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask and I thought it might be able to fix my dehydrated skin. The texture of this product is a bit like hair gel and is quite sticky and tacky which took me a while to get used to. I use this every night, rubbing it between my fingers, smoothing it onto my face and then lightly patting to help the product soak into my skin. It’s nice and easy to apply as it comes with a little spatula. You only need half a spatulas worth otherwise it all gets a bit much! This product has 100% done wonders for my skin in terms of hydration. I always assumed that because my skin was oily that the only products I could use were lightly moisturising but I was totally wrong. Because this product works over night I wake up in the morning to skin that’s plumped but not oily. I don’t know what I’d do without this. The second product is the Youth Cream. I picked this up because I wanted a moisturiser that was just as hydrating as my new nighttime addition and what would be better than the moisturiser from the same range! This plumps up my skin like no other and I can feel it working from the moment I swipe it onto skin. It’s quite hard to explain but although it feels like a normal cream you can just tell that it’s plumping.  It doesn’t make my skin feel greasy throughout the day and I just think that’s it’s done my skin some serious good.

If anyone recommends anything else from this range like the Youth Concentrate and the Eye Cream then please let me know because I have fallen head over heels in love with these products.

June Favourites

The end of June only means one thing, less than a month until my Florida holiday of dreams! I’m so excited you don’t even know! Anyway June has been a pretty good month. I finished my second year of uni and started my work experience which I have to say has been really great. But without further ado here are some of the things that I’ve been loving throughout the month of June.

Kiko Eyeshadow Sticks

These have literally become my life. Since I’ve got them I don’t use anything else and I don’t think I want to. I have two shades, 05 rosy brown and 21 passionfruit. They both have the best staying power and pigmentation, I swipe them all across the lid, blend them out and they’re good to go. Rosy brown creates a really simple smokey eye and passionfruit looks fresh and works really well with my Naked 3 palette. I put them on at 7 in the morning and they’re still on, without creases at 9 at night. Incredible isn’t it. I may have to think about expanding my collection, possibly with a champagne, ooh the excitement!

The Body Shop Mojito Shower Gel

This. Smells. Incredible. Part of the new mojito collection this has such a sweet smell that is perfect for Summer. It reminds me of the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush range with the citrus smell and colour. The shower gel was also pretty cheap, £4 and a little definitely goes a long way. The scent lingers after you get out of the shower, which I personally love, and when I pair it with my satsuma body butter I smell like a tropical fruit salad.

Work Experience

If you didn’t already know, because it’s not as if I mention it every five seconds on this blog, I’m doing work experience at my local paper the Halifax Courier. I am literally loving it so far. I’ve been given the chance to write so many stories and get my name in the paper which has definitely been my favourite thing. I’m learning so much and I’ll be sad to leave!

My Skincare Routine

I’ve never done a skincare routine on my blog before which seems very strange seeing as though I’m VERY into it. If I haven’t gone through each step of my routine I feel like something’s missing on my face. This has been my routine for about nine months and I don’t think that it’s going to change for a very long time so let’s jump into it!

In the morning the first thing I use is the Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean Cleanser. This just takes off any remaining grub that may still be on my face from the night before but also wakes me up a little bit (because those 9am starts are just not working for me at the minute). Next up is my beloved Seaweed Toner from The Body Shop. Until I found this my skin was just an oily mess but now it only starts to get a little greasy as the day goes on. This isn’t stripping but it leaves my face feeling matte and clean. Then the Simple Revitalising Eye Roll-On comes out to play and is so soothing on the eyes that I just want to roll it on all the time! I also use the Simple Spot Roll-On which is similar to the eye one but is designed to tackle spots. It’s not the best one I’ve ever used but it’s not too bad, I’d rather have a tea tree one as I feel like that’s better than tackling spots. Next up is my lip saviour; the Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub. This takes off the dead skin and leaves lips feeling soft, and tasting really delicious! While the scrub’s on I use The Body Shop Absinthe Hand Cream. This has become a habit now and when I don’t do it, I feel like there’s something missing. After slathering on my Maybelline Baby Lips I use my Nivea Oil Free Day Moisturiser. I can feel this running out by the day which really makes me sad. It’s moisturising without making my skin feel greasy and slippy and I don’t feel too shiny later in the day, which some moisturisers tend to do. Moving onto night time and to take my makeup off I used to use the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish but I still need to repurchase so for now I’m just using The Garnier Micellar Water which does the job just as well but it takes a little bit more time. The only change to my routine at night is that I swap my moisturiser. I use the Vichy Night Detox which is the best night moisturiser I’ve ever used. It’s thick but, again like most of these products, it doesn’t make my skin oily and greasy. I’m going to be sad when this runs out and I may have to do a cheeky repurchase.

So that’s my skincare routine. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know because as I said I’m in the market for a new ‘makeup takeoff’ cleanser so any suggestions would be greatly received!

New Lip Products

Over the past few weeks I’ve been expanding my lip collection and branching out so I thought I’d share my new additions with you and give my thoughts. First up is the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist. I’d heard a lot about this and I was in need of a lip product that put a little something on but did’t require too much effort and upkeep throughout the day. This colour is literally exactly the same colour as my lips. I love it. It smells amazing, like vanilla, and is perfect to just shove in your bag and take on the go. I have heard that they can melt easily so I’m a little weary about it but so far mine hasn’t shown signs of melting. Next is The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Tint in 03. For me this is such a nostalgic product. About seven years ago I had this after going to a Body Shop party at someones house and used to wear it all the time. The smell and the taste take me back but I have to say it’s a little disappointing. When I put it on the lips it clung to the dry patches so was a nice colour but redder in some areas than in others. It’s also not great on the cheeks as it dries too quickly to blend out properly and it ends up looking like you’ve got a skin infection. It has to be said though, the staying power is insane (The swatch is still on my hand when I’m writing this and no amount of makeup remover can get it off). Last but not least it’s one of my new favourite lip combos. For my birthday my friends got me a Mac Lipstick in Kinda Sexy. Every time I go into Mac and look at the lipsticks I have no idea which one to go for so I’ve come to the conclusion that from now on I’m just going to let other people choose them for me. It’s a matte nude that is insanely moisturising and long lasting on the lips. I’m in love with this lipstick but when I pare it with my new lip liner the love grows stronger. Instead of folking out £10-£15 on a Mac lip liner I searched through Boots to try and find one that matched at a cheaper price. Enter the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liner in Spice. It’s pretty much an exact match and was half the price of a mac liner. These too together make such a long-lasting combo that doesn’t take much up keep and I love it.

Take Care of your Lips!

My lips hate me. No that’s not an exaggeration, they just really don’t want to be on my face. When I put nothing on them then we get on fine but if I’m feeling a little bit more glam and want a bit of lipstick action they want none of it. So as I’ve been getting more adventurous in this department I’ve had to find products that keep my lips happy and give a nice canvas in which to apply my product of choice.

As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago, the Mint Julips Lip Scrub has literally saved my lips. I put this on morning and night and it gets rid of all the dead skin (TMI I know) and means that my lips are no longer bumpy and disgusting. I think that the Maybelline Baby Lips are great and really moisturise my lips. When I first tried them I have to say I wasn’t a big fan but now I really lather them up (if you can lather a lip balm) and they lock in the moisture. This time last year I was having major lip problems and nothing could sort them out. That was until my friend let me try her Lanolips. I was straight into Boots to to get one of the these and I went for the lemonade one, which is really good. It is a little bit pricey, but if your lips are literally dead this will bring them back to life. For my birthday I got a Satsuma Lip Balm from The Body Shop and this is so creamy and nice on the lips that I like to use this at night. It also smells amazing, and you can’t go wrong with that!

Empties #1

This is my first ever empties post and I have to say it’s taken me longer than I thought it was going to to build up a little stash, but I’ve done it so let’s get started. I’ve been using the Lee Stafford shampoo and conditioners for about three years and my favourites have been from the big fat hair range. They’re around £8 each and do quite a good job of volumising the hair. I’ve been through a fair few bottles over the years but recently it’s not been quite doing it for me. My hair just doesn’t seem to be getting washed properly and it can feel very greasy. I think I may have to move on to bigger and better things. Next up is my beloved Seaweed Toner from The Body Shop. I don’t think I could live without this. It’s done wonders for my oily skin and it just seems to keep the grease at bay. I will forever repurchase this, probably for the rest of time. In 2009 I got this L’Oreal Golden Eyeshadow free in a set. I thought that it was going to be something that I was never going to use, but I think that the fact I’ve finished it proved me wrong. I used this as a highlight and it was really nice, shimmery not too glittery and a nice colour. I don’t think they sell this anymore so I’ll have to find another replacement, but I already have one in mind. My Vitamin E Night Cream from The Body Shop has done me well over this past year but our time has come to an end. I really liked the way that this moisturised my skin without making it oily and it was a good price considering it’s lasted me just under 12 months. At the minute I’m trying another night cream but if that doesn’t work out I’d definitely repurchase. This Coconut Body Butter from The Body Shop is just insane! Smells amazing, moisturises like no other and lasts not too badly either. Everyone knows how great these body butters are but the coconut one is thicker than some of the others which in my opinion makes it thicker as it gives your body a good moisturise. Love it!

Stay tuned next week to see what I’ve repurchased and what new stuff I’m trying out!
